The McCarthy Consultancy is owned and was founded by Tim McCarthy in 2016.

The McCarthy Consultancy is dedicated to providing a confidential Executive Coaching service to individuals or groups,  to providing Business Consultancy to support organisations deliver success and for Communication Coaching in personal development that will help everyone it works with to become the very best versions of themselves they can be.

Tim is an international speaker on leadership, and unique in the world of coaching because he has deep experience operating at the highest levels in the executive, business, sports and media worlds.

In the business world Tim McCarthy has held top executive positions for over 20 years such as Managing Director – Retail Direct at Ulster Bank Group, CEO of One Direct, Head of Financial Services of An Post, General Manager - Sales BUPA Ireland and General Manager of online insurance broker, Hello.ie.

Tim has successfully built several direct to consumer business in banking, insurance and financial services in both the private and public arenas.

He has served on many boards in both the commercial and charity sectors throughout the years.

Tim is a graduate of NUIG where he achieved an Honours Executive MBA and is also a graduate of UCC where he gained an Honours Training & Development Diploma. Tim is also a Qualified Financial Advisor.

On the sporting front he is known for being one of Irelands greatest ever players who played during the golden era of Irish basketball in the 1980s, and his incredibly successful coaching in the 90’s which resulted in his Hall of Fame induction in 2023 with Basketball Ireland, in a career that saw him play over 100 times for Ireland, along with Captaining and later Coaching the team as well. Tim is one of only a handful of people in Ireland to have been both been captain and coach of a national team. Tim’s coaching experience also includes leading and coaching successful Gaelic Football and Hurling teams at senior county and club level.

The McCarthy Consultancy’s unique approach to executive, business, communication, personal and sports coaching is rooted in these experiences, but there is yet another dimension to The McCarthy Consultancy.

Tim McCarthy also has deep experience and capability in media and communications, specifically in the areas of public speaking, commentating and interviewing. Tim has delivered speeches to audiences of all sizes at many events nationally and internationally over many years, specialising in leadership, motivational and after-dinner speeches.

Tim has commentated for RTE on Olympic Basketball at the past six Olympic Games, one Paralympic Games and his infectious enthusiasm and phrases has captivated global audiences earning praise from the New York Times which featured him during the 2024 Paris Olympics, when journalist Ali Watkins stated “Every four years , he gives Ireland a reason to watch basketball” ,  he makes basketball irresistible and created a huge fan base during the Games".

He was also an on course commentator at the 2006 Ryder Cup and did a number off GAA commentaries for the Sunday Game. Tim has interviewed some of the biggest names on the planet for broadcast sport media, including Tiger Woods ,Michael Jordan and Ian Botham.

The McCarthy Consultancy draws on this unique experience in public speaking, commentating and interviewing in order to provide top level communication and presentation training to individuals and groups in the business and sports worlds but is also available in his own right for new public speaking, commentating or interviewing engagements.
